Dr. María Montessori believed that each child created his or her own future, opposing to the idea of children as containers to be filled with information, bound to become copies of the adults around. She believed human development occurred during the first six years of life and that this process took place through physical growth, imitation of others, nutrition, surrounding environment and most importantly, the emotional environment in which the child develops.
For this development to succeed, our school’s programs offer the following:
Secure and supervised physical space that includes materials for the child’s development that he or she can easily manipulate.
A staff of teachers that offer the child a feeling of caring and total dedication, security and acceptance through constant personal interaction. Our staff uses respectful and clear vocabulary with everyone around them, motivating the child’s language development.
A daily routine that allows children maximum freedom of movement regardless of the child’s stage of physical development.
Assertive discipline that teaches children consideration and respect for others.
Specially designed Montessori materials that allow children to enter a period of exploration of the order of things.
Constant opportunities to observe, select and interact with any material or daily activity that satisfies the need for independece from adults.
A safe outdoor area with play-ground, vegetable garden, and a small zoo with bunnies, hens, roosters and Missy the pig. All of these elements allow children to develop their love for nature in a completely safe and protected environment.
